Action Trauma was founded by Clive Corry in memory of his late wife, Gillian. His vision is to spread the word about trauma and make Belfast a world trauma information hub, driving research, improving understanding and disseminating information on every aspect of trauma. Brian Corry is Clive’s son and fellow-director, primarily involved in strategy, planning and logistics. Tomas Bamford and Michaela Devlin manage forward planning, marketing, promotion and the day to day organisation of all the planned events. Becca Wilgar coordinates and manages the speakers and their needs.
Young Hearts & Minds is an event hosted by Action Trauma (a not-for-profit organisation) dedicated to helping young people to ride the roller coaster of life, safely and happily. This can be achieved with a greater public awareness of psychological trauma, its causes, effects, treatment and recovery. Trauma can lead to depression, anxiety, addictions and even suicide, but it doesn’t have to. Young Hearts & Minds brings together leading world and local experts to talk about these issues and give advice on other topics such as grief and bereavement. Trauma is not an illness. It is an injury which can be healed. Being one of the ‘trauma cities’ of the world, Belfast has a unique opportunity to break the transgenerational cycle and calm the ripples which trauma can cause within a family. The message is one of hope.
